How to Fix Screenshots On Mac Taking a Long Time to Save to the Desktop

If you’re running Mojave on your Mac you may have noticed that when you take a screenshot, a floating thumbnail appears in the bottom right corner of the screen and you have to wait more than 5 seconds for it to disappear before the screenshot finally saves to your desktop.

The purpose of this thumbnail is so you can click on it to make quick edits each time you take a screenshot. But if you don’t use this feature it just ends up being really annoying and slows down your productivity. The fix is really simple and will make it so the screenshots save to your desktop instantly.

Firstly open the screenshot app by pressing “Command + Shift + 5” on your keyboard. Alternatively you can open the app by searching for “screenshot” in Spotlight Search.

Next click the “Options” button in the menu to open the list of options. Click “Show Floating Thumbnail” to disable it. The tick on the left of the button should disappear.

That’s it! Now to test it press “Command + Shift + 3” on your keyboard to take a screenshot and you will see that the floating thumbnail no longer appears and the screenshots saves to your desktop instantly!
