The Difference Between the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro

With a $300 dollar price difference between these two iPhones the question most people will be asking is whether it’s better to save the money and go with the cheaper iPhone 11, or do the extra features on the iPhone 11 Pro justify the extra $300. The answer will obviously differ from person to person but in order to make that decision here’s everything you need to know.

Firstly, what’s kept the same between these models

Both phones have the same a13 bionic processor, both start at 64GB of storage and they both have the same wireless features including bluetooth 5, wifi 6, ultra-wide band and NFC. As for cameras they have the same improved front-facing module so you can use face ID at a wider angle, take 12 megapixel selfies with a wider field of view and even 4k video and slow-motion selfie videos.

On the back both phones have a 12 megapixel F 1.8 wide-angle camera and a new 12 megapixel F 2.4 ultra wide-angle camera with a 120 degree field of view. On top of that, this year Apple has removed 3D Touch completely, so none of the new devices have 3D Touch. Instead they have replaced it with haptic touch, which is basically just a long press with a slight vibration.

What’s the differences

Third rear camera on the iPhone 11 Pro:

Along with the other two rear cameras the iPhone 11 Pro also comes equip with a third camera, which is a 12 megapixel F 2.0 telephoto lens that lets in 40% more light than the telephoto lens on last years iPhone XS.

Probably the most obvious difference between the two devices is the display. The iPhone 11 has an LCD that’s essentially the same as the one on last year’s iPhone XR, whereas the 11 Pro has an OLED display just like last year’s iPhone XS, but this year the OLED display has an improved contrast ratio of 2 million to one and a max brightness of 800 nits that cranks all the way up to 1200 nits with HDR content.

Essentially the difference is that the display on the 11 Pro is brighter, sharper and overall just better looking. With that being said don’t be put off from the display on the iPhone 11, it’s still one of the nicest looking smartphone displays on the market.

Size and color choices:

When it comes to the available sizes and colors the iPhone 11 comes in one size with a 6.1 inch display and six colors including black, white, yellow, green, purple and product red which will be available right from day one. The 11 Pro comes in two sizes, a smaller one at 5.8 inches and the bigger one (iPhone 11 Pro Max) at 6.5 inches. It comes in four colors including space grey, gold, silver and midnight green.

Battery life and storage options:

Both models have a longer battery life than last year’s iPhones, but the 11 Pro will go about an hour longer than the iPhone 11. The 11 Pro Max battery life will go an additional hour or so on top of the smaller Pro model. Although the iPhone 11 and the 11 Pro both start at 64GB of storage, the iPhone 11 has upgrades for 128 or 256GB while the pro model has upgrades for 256 or 512GB.

Other small differences:

There are also a bunch of relatively small differences between the models. The iPhone 11 has a cellular radio with 2×2 MIMO while the 11 Pro has 4×4 MIMO, so you might get a little bit better connection with the Pro model.

There is also a slight difference between the waterproof capabilities. The iPhone 11 can go up to 30 minutes at a depth of 2 meters, while the 11 Pro can do 30 minutes at a depth of 4 meters.

As for build materials the iPhone 11 has an aluminium and glass design, whereas the 11 Pro has a slightly nicer stainless steel and glass design with polished edges and a textured matt finish on the back.

The 11 Pro also comes with an 18 watt USB C power adapter in the box which allows for faster charging. The iPhone 11 will work with that charger if you buy it separately but in the box you’ll get the usual 5 watt power adapter.

Overall the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro have the same major performance characteristics and features. What you’re really paying for on the iPhone 11 Pro is the OLED display, the telephoto lens, and some other minor details as mentioned above.
